Although she has long been thought of as a late Preraphaelite, her art also reflects the nineteenth century theosophical movement of Spiritualism. Some of her subjects are classical and Biblical, very Preraphaelite, while others reflect the cataclysmic changes in early 20th century thought that centered around materialism, spiritualsm, religious doubt, and warfare.
